My mother was visiting recently and throughout our mother-daughter shopping time I noticed something interesting. The majority of the stores I made a purchase at asked me if I'd want to get on the mailing list. That is very wise.

But, the WAY by which they did this made a positive change in my own answer. I said NO to almost all of them since they just didn't allow it to be tempting for me. But one shop specifically got me. To begin with, it was a designer clothing store I loved. Second of all, they didn't ask me if I desired to be on the subscriber list. They invited me to be a 'VIP Client.'

Say what 'VIP' in my experience and my ears improve. It obviously means 'very important person.' And generally speaking it suggests an amount of reputation and advantage. Suddenly I NEEDED to be on that subscriber list, particularly when the salesman explained to me it included specific benefits, such as early notice on your own buying service, new arrivals, and private trunk shows.

And do you know what? I'd have even paid-to participate that - to be seen as a VIP.
